Presentazione
Marco Santoro is full professor of Sociology at the University of Bologna, Department of the Arts, where he teaches courses on the Sociology of art, Sociology of journalism, Sociology of music and Research methods in cultural studies. He currently serves in the scientific/editorial boards of the journals Symbolic Goods/Biens symboliques, American Journal of Cultural Sociology, and Studi Culturali (which he co-founded in 2004), and has served in the past in the board of the journals Poetics, Cultural Sociology, and Polis. In 2007 he founded the journal Sociologica. Italian journal of sociology on line (Mulino) which he edited till 2018. He is a foreign member of the Centre européen de sociologie et de science politique - CESSP (Paris). In 2015 he was invited as visiting professor at the EHESS, Paris.

He has published widely in the fields of cultural sociology, sociology of music, mafia studies and the history of the social sciences. Among his recent books: Mafia Politics (Polity 2022), Cosa è cultura? (Il Mulino 2022), Ideas on the Move in the Social Sciences and Humanities (coedited with G. Sapiro and P. Beart, Palgrave 2020), The Anthem Companion to Everett Hughes (coedited with R. Helm-Hayes, Anthem 2016), Fronteggiare la crisi. Come cambia lo stile di vita del ceto medio (with R. Sassatelli and G. Semi, Mulino 2015), Riconoscere le mafie (ed., Mulino 2015).

He has contributed to the Oxford Handbook on Pierre Bourdieu (Oxford UP 2018), the Dictionnaire international Bourdieu (CNRS Editions 2020), the Anthem Companion to Bourdieu (Anthem Press 2015), the Sage Handbook on Cultural Sociology (Sage 2016), the Routledge Handbook in the sociology of culture and the arts (Routledge 2016), the Routledge Handbook in Music Sociology (Routledge 2015), the SAGE Research Methods Foundations (2019-2020).

He is the Italian editor of the Italian (second) edition of Bourdieu’s La Distinction (Il Mulino 2001) and Raisons pratiques (Mulino 2005), Among the authors whose books he edited in their Italian edition are Everett Hughes, Howard Becker, Diana Crane, Paul DiMaggio, Jeffrey Alexander, Andrew Abbott, William H. Sewell jr.
